اكتشاف بكتيريا تأكل النفط وتقضي على التلوث البيئي
في أحدث خطوة لتفادي آثار التلوث النفطي في المياه وعلى اليابسة، تمكن علماء من جامعة كيبك الكندية من اكتشاف بعض أنواع البكتيريا وجرثومات يطلق عليها اسم "Alcanivorax borkumensis"، والتي من شأنها أن تساعد على تحلل مشتقات النفط والغاز الطبيعي، من خلال تعذيتها على الهيدروكربونات وتحويلها إلى مواد عضوية غير مضرة بالبيئة.
وحسب ما أعلن عنه علماء من جامعة كيبك الكندية، والذين أجروا عدة اختبارات على هذه البكتيريا، ليتضح الأمر في النهاية أن الإنزيمات التي تنتجها البكتيريا، تأكل المنتجات البترولية في الماء والتربة، وهو ما سيؤدي إلى إزالة تلوث المياه والأرض وانتعاش الثروات النباتية والحيوانية، مؤكدين أن هذه الخطوة تعتبر بمثابة طريقة تنظيف فعالة وبسيطة وصديقة للبيئة.
وفسر العلماء المعنيين بالأمر ظاهرة التحلل الطبيعي لعدد من تسربات النفط، حيث أكدوا أن هذه الظاهرة تأتي نتيجة وجود البكتيريا المجهرية في كل المحيطات، والتي تنجرف مع التيار وتتكاثر بمعدل سريع في المناطق ذات التركيزات العالية من مركبات النفط، وهو ما يؤدي للتحلل الطبيعي لعدد من تسربات النفط.
