SENEGAL:
Attractiveness for investment: Senegal in the top 10: "Morocco is the most attractive economy for investors in the continent, according to the 2017 edition of the African attractiveness index published by the audit firm Ernst & Young this May. Introduced in 2016, the AAI (Africa Attractiveness Index) measures the relative attractiveness of the investments of 46 African economies on the basis of overall balanced short and long-term targets. Entitled "Connectivity redefined", this latest edition assesses progress in the areas of governance, diversification, infrastructure, business opportunities, and human development, as well as the likely resilience of economies in the context of current macroeconomic pressures. Thereby, the economic dynamism and the position of emerging countries close to Europe have made the Shereefian kingdom a privileged destination for the investors in search of investment and business opportunities. Morocco (+1) blows the first place as the largest African economy in 2016. South Africa, the rainbow nation, now shares the second place of the podium with Kenya (+2). Note also the good places of Ivory Coast (7th, +2), Mauritius (8th, -3), and Senegal (9, +2). The countries that have lost the biggest places are Egypt (8 places lost), Benin and Ethiopia (6 places), and Tunisia (5 seats)."
GHANA:
A US financial support of $238 million: "The United States plans to provide financial support of nearly $238 million to Ghana. An envelope that will stimulate the country's economy, particularly in the energy, agriculture and industry sectors..."
NIGERIA:
Nigeria wants to boost tourism with the help of the World Tourism Organization and CNN: "The Nigerian executive plans to work with the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the CNN television channel to boost tourism in the country. This was revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, specifying that in this context, the local film industry, Nollywood, will be a key asset. "Negotiations for a robust and effective partnership are being advanced to boost tourism, relying on Nollywood. We aim to make tourism one of the pillars of the economy," said the Minister during the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Lagos..."
NNPC will develop three power stations with a total capacity of 3000 MW by 2019: "In Nigeria, three new gas-fired power stations should be built by the NNPC, the State's oil company, by 2019. The General Manager of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, who made this announcement, said that the three infrastructures will be located in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. The Manager was speaking on the sidelines of the Offshore Technology Conference held annually in Houston, USA. According to him, the three power stations will generate up to 3000 MW of electricity..."
IVORY COAST:
€44 million of the World Bank to reinforce the drinking water supply in 8 cities: "The Ivorian government adopted, in Council of Ministers of May 3, 2017, a decree ratifying a loan agreement of 44.8 million Euros (CFAF 29,386,873,600) concluded between Ivory Coast and the International Development Association (IDA), on February 20, 2017. This funding from this World Bank institution, which helps developing countries, aims at strengthening the supply of drinking water in urban areas, as well as reinforcing the capacity building of the National Office of Drinking Water (ONEP)..."
Mobile operators and government join forces to boost digital technology: "The Ivorian government wants more digital and financial inclusion in the country. To this end, a convention was signed on April 27, 2017, in the margin of the mobile conference 360 West Africa between Orange Ivory Coast, MTN Group, the Ivorian Ministry of Communication, the Digital Economy and the Post Office, UNDP, and GSMA which represents the interests of more than 800 operators in the mobile industry around the world"
GABON:
The World Bank finances the electrification of 200 villages in Gabon: "The strengthening of the electricity supply in Gabon is the focus of discussions between the Gabonese government, the technical partners, and the development financiers. KENYA:
$1.5 billion from Exim Bank of China for the second phase of Standard Gauge Railway: "Exim Bank of China has just granted a loan estimated at $1.5 billion for the second phase of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). This funding from the Chinese bank is destined for the construction of 120 Km of railway to standard size between Nairobi and Naivasha, a strategic city northwest of the capital. "The phase II of the Nairobi SGR in Naivasha is also underway. The identification of the itinerary for this second phase of the project and of allocated human resources has been done. The National Land Commission (NLC) is currently evaluating the lands in order to relocate the populations concerned, "says Economic Survey 2017..."
